Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 medium firm, starchy potatoes (Russet or Yukon Gold)
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Optional Seasonings

  • Garlic powder (optional)
  • Paprika (optional)
  • Fresh herbs like rosemary, thyme, parsley (optional)
  • Cayenne pepper or chili flakes for spice (optional)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional, to sprinkle halfway through cooking)
  • Nutritional yeast (optional, vegan cheese alternative)
  • Smoked paprika (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Potatoes: Wash and dry the potatoes thoroughly to remove any dirt and moisture. Slice evenly into rounds about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick for uniform cooking and crispiness.
  2. Season the Slices: Place the potato slices in a large bowl. Drizzle with olive oil, then sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and any chosen optional seasonings. Toss well to coat each slice evenly, ensuring full flavor coverage.
  3. Preheat Your Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 to 5 minutes. Preheating helps achieve crispier potatoes and reduces cooking time.
  4. Arrange and Cook: Place the potato slices in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding to maintain crispiness. Cook for 15 to 18 minutes, flipping or shaking the basket halfway through to promote even browning. If using Parmesan, sprinkle it on halfway through cooking.
  5. Check for Crispiness and Serve: Once the potatoes are golden and crispy, remove them from the air fryer. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels if needed to absorb any excess oil. Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Uniform thickness in slicing is key to even cooking and prevents soggy or burnt pieces.
  • Preheating the air fryer ensures potatoes start cooking immediately for better crispiness.
  • Use just enough oil to coat slices lightly, maintaining a healthy dish while achieving golden results.
  • Shake or flip the slices halfway through cooking to ensure even color and texture.
  • Dry potatoes thoroughly before cooking to maximize crunchiness.
  • Leftovers store best in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • To reheat, use the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3 to 5 minutes to restore crispness.
  • Freezing cooked slices is possible but may reduce crispiness; flash freeze on a tray first.
