Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup long grain rice (such as basmati or jasmine)
  • 2 cups water or broth (vegetable or chicken broth works well)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • Optional: freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse and Prep the Rice: Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch and ensure fluffy, non-sticky grains.
  2. Cook the Rice: In a pot, combine the rinsed rice with 2 cups of water or broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover tightly, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until all liquid is absorbed and the rice is tender.
  3. Add Butter and Season: Remove the pot from heat. Stir in the butter and salt immediately, letting the residual heat melt the butter completely and coat each grain. Adjust salt and add pepper if desired.
  4. Fluff and Serve: Use a fork to fluff the rice gently, separating grains and releasing steam. Serve warm as a perfect buttery side dish.

Notes

  • Use high-quality unsalted butter for a richer flavor.
  • Rinsing the rice prevents gummy or sticky texture.
  • Let the cooked rice rest covered for 5 minutes before fluffing to finish steaming gently.
  • Fluff rice with a fork to keep grains separate and light.
  • Butter Rice can be easily doubled or tripled for larger servings.
