Ingredients

Scale

Beef Filling

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 3 green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper

Wontons

  • 3040 wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil or peanut oil, enough for frying (about 2-3 cups)

Instructions

  1. Preparing the Beef Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, minced garlic, minced ginger, chopped green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and freshly ground black pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined and the mixture is juicy and flavorful.
  2. Assembling the Wontons: Place a small spoonful of the beef mixture in the center of each wonton wrapper. Brush the edges of the wrapper with beaten egg to create an egg wash. Fold the wrapper into a triangle or purse shape and press firmly to seal the edges tightly, ensuring no filling will leak during frying.
  3. Heating the Oil: Pour enough neutral oil into a deep pan to submerge the wontons halfway. Heat the oil over medium heat to about 350°F (175°C), which is ideal for crisping without burning.
  4. Frying the Wontons: Carefully place the wontons in batches into the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side until they turn golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
  5. Serving Warm: Arrange the crispy wontons on a serving plate and enjoy immediately with your favorite dipping sauce like sweet chili sauce, soy sauce with rice vinegar, or soy-sesame garlic dip.

Notes

  • Don’t overfill the wontons to prevent bursting during frying.
  • Use egg wash liberally to seal the edges tightly for perfect cooking.
  • Maintain oil temperature at 350°F (175°C) for even cooking and crispiness.
  • Cook in small batches to avoid overcrowding and soggy wontons.
  • Drain cooked wontons well on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
