Ingredients

Scale

Mushrooms

  • 8 cups fresh mushrooms (button, cremini, or baby bella), whole or sliced

Garlic and Herbs

  • 34 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh oregano, chopped

Cooking Fats

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter

Seasonings

  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mushrooms: Gently clean your mushrooms with a damp cloth or soft brush to remove dirt without soaking them. Slice or keep them whole depending on size and preference to ensure even cooking.
  2. Sauté the Garlic: Heat olive oil or butter over medium heat, then add minced garlic. Cook just until fragrant—about 30 seconds—to infuse the oil without burning the garlic.
  3. Cook the Mushrooms: Add the mushrooms to the pan in a single layer, allowing them to brown slightly without stirring too often. This caramelization develops rich flavor and a pleasant texture.
  4. Add Herbs and Season: Sprinkle fresh parsley, thyme, rosemary, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir gently to coat mushrooms evenly. Optionally add red pepper flakes and a splash of lemon juice for brightness.
  5. Finish and Serve: Once mushrooms are tender and fragrant, remove from heat. Serve hot as a delicious side or topping immediately.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the pan; mushrooms need space to brown properly rather than steam.
  • Use fresh herbs for best flavor, adding them toward the end of cooking.
  • Cook over medium heat to avoid burning garlic or herbs while achieving perfect caramelization.
  • Cremini and baby bella mushrooms add a deeper, earthier flavor compared to button mushrooms.
  • Always taste and adjust seasoning for the perfect balance of salt, acidity, and spice.
