Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) lean ground chicken
  • 12 fresh jalapeños, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, minced
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 cheese slices (cheddar, pepper jack, or mozzarella)
  • 4 burger buns (soft but sturdy)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patty Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, finely chopped jalapeños, chili powder, minced garlic and onion, breadcrumbs, and the egg. Mix gently but thoroughly to ensure all ingredients are evenly incorporated without overworking the meat to keep it tender.
  2. Shape the Patties: Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a round patty about ¾ inch thick. Press slightly in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly and prevent puffing up.
  3. Cook the Patties: Heat a non-stick skillet or grill to medium-high. Cook the patties for 5-6 minutes per side until fully cooked through and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty to melt.
  4. Toast the Buns: While the patties cook, lightly toast the burger buns in a pan or oven to add texture and warmth, complementing the juicy chicken perfectly.
  5. Assemble and Serve: Spread your favorite condiments on the bottom buns, place the spicy chicken patty on top, then layer with fresh lettuce, sliced tomato, and any other preferred toppings. Crown with the top buns and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use fresh jalapeños for vibrant heat and flavor rather than dried chili flakes.
  • Avoid overmixing the meat mixture to maintain a light, tender texture.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure patties reach a safe internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  • Let cooked patties rest for a few minutes to lock in juices before assembling the burgers.
  • Adjust the heat by varying the amount of chili powder and jalapeños based on your preference.
