  • 24 tablespoons water or aquafaba (as needed for desired consistency)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Rinse and drain the chickpeas thoroughly. Wash fresh basil leaves and measure out lemon juice and tahini so all ingredients are ready for blending.
  2. Blend the Base: In a food processor, combine chickpeas, basil leaves, lemon juice, tahini, garlic, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Pulse until the mixture becomes partially smooth.
  3. Adjust Texture: Gradually add water or aquafaba, one tablespoon at a time, while blending continuously until the hummus reaches your preferred creamy texture.
  4. Taste and Rebalance: Pause blending to taste the hummus and adjust seasoning by adding more salt, lemon juice, or garlic to fine-tune the flavors.
  5. Serve or Store: Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. Optionally, drizzle with olive oil or garnish with torn basil leaves and freshly cracked black pepper. Refrigerate if not serving immediately.
