Ingredients

Scale

Proteins

  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey

Sauces and Cheese

  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Pasta

  • 9 no-boil lasagna noodles

Aromatics and Seasonings

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Garnishes (Optional)

  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Brown the Meat and Sauté Aromatics: Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef or turkey, cooking until browned and no longer pink, breaking it apart as it cooks. Add finely chopped onion and minced garlic and sauté until soft and fragrant.
  2. Add Marinara Sauce and Seasonings: Pour in marinara sauce, stir in Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to taste. Let it simmer for a few minutes to meld the flavors.
  3. Layer the Noodles and Cheese: Arrange no-boil lasagna noodles on top of the sauce, pressing gently so they soak up the liquid. Spoon dollops of ricotta cheese evenly over the noodles, then sprinkle shredded mozzarella on top.
  4. Repeat and Simmer Covered: Repeat layering with remaining noodles, sauce, ricotta, and mozzarella until all ingredients are used, finishing with a top layer of cheese. Cover the pan tightly and simmer on low heat for 25 to 30 minutes or until noodles are tender and cheese is melted.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Let the lasagna rest for a few minutes after cooking. Garnish with freshly chopped basil or parsley, slice, and serve directly from the pan for a cozy, rustic meal.

Notes

  • Use a deep skillet to accommodate all layers and prevent sauce spills during simmering.
  • Simmer on low heat to allow noodles to soften evenly without burning the bottom.
  • Cover the pan tightly to keep steam inside and cook the noodles without pre-boiling.
  • Drain excess moisture from added vegetables in variations to prevent watery lasagna.
  • Let the lasagna rest after cooking for easier slicing and better flavor melding.
