Quick Cherry Pie Bites

Quick Cherry Pie Bites

Quick Cherry Pie Bites are delightful, bite-sized desserts featuring a sweet and tangy cherry filling wrapped in a buttery, flaky crust. Perfect for parties, picnics, or a fast homemade treat, these easy-to-make bites deliver classic cherry pie flavor in a fun and portable form with minimal preparation time.

Ingredients

Crust and Dough

  • Pre-made pie crust (enough to cut 3-inch circles)
  • Flour or cornstarch (1-2 teaspoons, to thicken filling)

Filling

  • Cherry pie filling (approximately 1 cup)

Toppings and Finishing

  • Egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water)
  • Sugar and cinnamon (optional, for sprinkling on top)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Your Workspace: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easy. Roll out your pre-made pie crust on a lightly floured surface to smooth it out.
  2. Cut the Dough and Add Filling: Using a round cookie cutter or the rim of a glass, cut circles approximately 3 inches in diameter from the dough. Place a small spoonful of cherry pie filling in the center of each circle, taking care not to overfill to avoid spills during baking.
  3. Seal and Shape the Bites: Fold the dough circles in half over the filling to create half-moons, then press the edges firmly with a fork to seal securely. Alternatively, gather the edges to form small baskets or purse shapes. Lightly brush each pie bite with egg wash to promote browning.
  4. Add Finishing Touches: Optionally, sprinkle a pinch of sugar and cinnamon on top of each bite for extra sweetness and spice. For better baking, poke a small air vent in each bite to allow steam to escape.
  5. Bake to Golden Perfection: Bake the cherry pie bites in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown and crisp. Remove from the oven and allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Cut dough pieces uniformly to ensure even baking and consistent filling moisture.
  • Do not overfill the bites to prevent leaks and sogginess during baking.
  • Use cold pie crust to maintain flakiness after baking.
  • Thoroughly brush with egg wash for a beautiful, glossy golden finish.
  • Keep an eye on the bites in the last few minutes of baking to avoid burning or drying out.
